DENVER — It was another successful trip up to Ball Arena for the Eagles wrestling team. Pueblo East walked in as the defending 4A state champions and was also the top ranked team overall in their divsion coming into Thursday, Feb. 19.
Once arriving, the Eagles proved their depth as a team as four wrestlers made their way to the title bout in their weight class. Nine wrestlers overall finished within the top six in their weight class giving the Eagles the top spot over Roosevelt and Air Academy.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementIt’s the Eagles fourth state title in the last five years. Meanwhile, another Pueblo school went to Ball Arena and defended their state title. The girls from Pueblo South won another 4A state championship led by two state champions in their own weight class.
Junior Acelyn Duran won the 4A title at 100 pounds and did not lose a single match in Denver. Gionna Duran also won a individual title at 115 pounds winning her championship bout 18-7 over Isabella Ortiz of La Junta.
