Warning: Possible SPOILERS for Star Trek: Starfleet Academy
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy actors announce that they've wrapped filming season 2, and here's what this means for Paramount+'s Star Trek TV franchise executive-produced by Alex Kurtzman. Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is one of the two remaining Star Trek shows on Paramount+. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds wrapped its fifth and final season in December 2025, and has seasons 4 and 5 banked and waiting to premiere on Paramount+.
Rated Fresh at 88% on Rotten Tomatoes, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is warping towards its season 1 finale, with three episodes remaining to premiere on Paramount+. However, Paramount+ ordered Star Trek: Starfleet Academy season 2 during season 1's production, and the second season has been filming at the Star Trek Stage at Pinewood Studios Toronto for the past several months.
On their Instagram Stories, Kerrice Brooks, who plays Series Acclimation Mil aka SAM, Gina Yashere, who plays Commander Lura Thok, and Karim Diané, who plays Jay-Den Kraag, announced they've wrapped filming of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy season 2. Diané's last day on set was shared in an Instagram story by assistant director Jess Smallwood. Check them out below:
Kerrice Brooks and Karim Diané wrapped filming Star Trek: Starfleet Academy season 2 over the weekend. Gina Yashere's wrap happened last week; as she notes in one of her Stories, after Gina shed her prosthetics as Lura Thok, she headed to Florida to join Star Trek: The Cruise, which sailed to the Caribbean on Friday.
Executive producer and co-showrunner Alex Kurtzman directed Star Trek: Starfleet Academy season 2's finale, just as he helmed season 1's first two episodes. Star Trek: Starfleet Academy season 2 may not be fully wrapped yet, but when it does, it marks the end of production of Star Trek executive produced by Kurtzman and Secret Hideout, which has overseen all of Paramount+'s Star Trek series since Star Trek: Discovery in 2017.
As Star Trek: Starfleet Academy season 2, as well as the final two seasons of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, await their premieres, the future of Paramount+'s Star Trek franchise is up in the air after Skydance Media acquired Paramount Global in 2025. Alex Kurtzman's contract as executive producer of Star Trek reportedly is up at the end of 2026.
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy's season 3 renewal is a big question mark.
It's unknown if Paramount Skydance will re-up Alex Kurtzman and Secret Hideout's contract or seek a new direction for Star Trek's TV franchise. Kurtzman has stated his hopes for Star Trek: Starfleet Academy to run for 4 seasons to complete the cadets' 4-year college experience. However, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy's season 3 renewal is a big question mark.
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy's first two episodes failed to crack the Nielsen Streaming Top 10 the way Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Picard season 3, and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds have. Yet, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy's social media presence, especially on TikTok, Instagram, and the platforms most used by its target young adult target audience, is strong.
Fans have also reported on social media that Star Trek: Starfleet Academy cracks Paramount+'s Top 3 series, and even temporarily displaces Landman as the number one show, when a new episode premieres, indicating that the audience is growing. As of now, audiences have 13 more episodes total of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy yet to see, as well as 16 episodes total of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds seasons 4 and 5 still to come.
Hopefully, Paramount+ will order Star Trek: Starfleet Academy season 3 (and, even better, season 4), to give Caleb Mir (Sandro Rosta), Jay-Den Kraag, SAM, Genesis Lythe (Bella Shepard), Darem Reymi (George Hawkins), Tarima Sadal (Zoë Steiner), and Ocam Sadal (Romeo Carere) their complete 4-year college experience and graduation to become full-fledged Starfleet Officers.
