Daredevil: Born Again's sophomore season promises to see the heroes of Hell's Kitchen fighting back against Mayor Wilson Fisk/Kingpin's corrupt regime. Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock/Daredevil is public enemy number one, with Mayor Fisk's anti-vigilante taskforce instituting martial law in New York City. In trying to save his city, Matt finds himself teaming up with former ally Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter).

While the series borrows these story elements directly from the Marvel Comics on which they are based, the themes of power and corruption have been seen by fans as especially relevant in 2026. Born Again showrunner Dario Scardapane recently addressed how this direction for season 2 parallels current events in cities such as Minneapolis, noting that Marvel has historically included political themes in its pages.

"The playbook is pretty well established, so when we were writing this stuff we were like, 'Here's what he does,'" Scardapane said (via ComicBookMovie.com). "The anti-vigilante task force is part of the comics. We built them and costumed them based on the comics." Despite this, the writer admitted that he noticed how the series mirrored real life in some ways: "There are a few sequences that were shot a year ago that could be off the news, and it’s weirding all of us out."

Though Scardapane has "mixed feelings" about it, he emphasized that this approach was true to Marvel's spirit, stating: "Stan Lee once said that he wanted to make his comic books a reflection of the world you saw outside your window." However, he countered that this approach can risk damaging the escapism that fans gravitate to these larger than life stories for.

"I also believe that what's fun about the genre, and definitely fun in working with superheroes, is you're dealing with huge archetypes, almost mythological characters, and that’s fun writing," Scardapane said. "Getting into the realm of politics, New York politics, the Game of Thrones intrigue behind the scenes. Okay, that’s fun too, but as it becomes almost too topical, it feels like it’s going away from the large, mythological genre stuff."

Due to this concern, Scardapane wants to make sure that the Mayor Fisk arc does not overstay its welcome. "So as we finish up the Mayor Fisk run with season two," he added. "As that storyline comes to its inevitable conclusion, what we’re doing going forward feels more like a return to the [Frank] Miller-era comics."

After the series finishes playing "in the realm of politics," Scardapane would "like something a little more street-level," taking Daredevil back to his roots. As a result, it seems that his vision for season three will be comparatively distanced from those topical story elements.

Regardless, Matt has quite the battle ahead of him to save the soul of Hell's Kitchen. On March 24, 2026, Daredevil: Born Again season two premieres on Disney+.
