Party games are designed specifically to be played with friends, but they often have the ability to turn friends against each other. Super Battle Golf, the latest so-called "friendslop" game, is taking Steam by storm, and is being praised for the chaotic ways it can ruin your friendships.
Developed in just four-and-a-half months by Brimstone, Super Battle Golf is essentially a multiplayer golf racing game. Up to eight players tee off at the same time and scramble to be the first to get their ball in the hole. You pick up items along the way, and many of them are specifically designed to enrage the other players.
Super Battle Golf Has Overwhelmingly Positive Reviews & Sold 100,000 Copies In Just 2 Days

Super Battle Golf just came out on February 19, and according to a post from developer Brimstone on Steam, was purchased by over 100,000 people in roughly 48 hours. With more than 1,300 reviews at the time of writing, Super Battle Golf's rating is at an astounding 96%, giving it the coveted Overwhelmingly Positive Steam rating.
One particularly glowing review calls it, "The best friendship ruiner party games ince UNO, Mario Kart, and the old Mario Party games," and very touchingly says, "I've been dying laughing and smiling for hours on end." Others mirror the sentiments, saying, "This game is the most fun I have had just hopping onto a game in a long time," and that all the violence is for "your quest to be number 1 on the board or to destroy your friends for the love of the game."
Super Battle Golf Is The Next Breakout "Friendslop" Hit

Super Battle Golf is one of those games that focuses almost entirely on the socialization of its multiplayer, adopting a basic, but still endearing art style. The term "friendslop" took off with the likes of scrap collector Lethal Company and continues to see huge hits like co-op climbing game PEAK. Super Battle Golf even has floating spectator cameras reminiscent of those seen in PEAK. They're games that have goals, but are largely about facilitating silly gameplay with your friends.
You'll get the hang of Super Battle Golf quickly if you've ever played a golf video game. It simplifies the shooting mechanics, giving you control over power and angle, but the real star of the show is its selection of items. From golf carts and cups of coffee to help you traverse the course faster to bazookas and land mines to blast your friends into a water hazard, Super Battle Golf quickly devolves into chaos.

Taking a quick look through the Steam reviews shows Super Battle Golf has something special, and it seems poised to continue its success.
