A young estate agent politician has defected from the Conservatives to join new rebel party Restore Britain.

Jack Symon, a sales negotiator with Michael Poole (pictured), quit the Tory party and rejected Reform UK led by Nigel Farage as an option.

Glitz and glamour

Symon, who is 24, told the Northern Echo: “There is a bit of a daytime TV vibe to them [Reform], they are not quite serious enough and seem very showbiz.

“Restore policy is member-led and they are very clear there will be ups and down. It’s very much a team effort, he says.

“With Reform it is very personality-driven, very sort of glitz and glamour.”

Elected

Symon was elected as a councillor in Redcar and Cleveland in 2023, and is due for re-election next year.

Conservative group leader Carolyn Curr said: “We thank Jack for what he has done with us and wish him well.”

Expelled

Lettings agency owner Maxine Fothergill also joined Restore recently after being expelled by Reform following disagreements over the running of Kent County Council.

Fothergill, who is also Managing Director of Amax Estates and former President of ARLA Propertymark, had been a Reform member for six years.

Restore Britain is led by Rupert Lowe, the controversial MP for Great Yarmouth, who left Reform himself after falling out with Farage to form the new party last year.

It is seen as a right-wing alternative to Reform that is growing in members and popularity.
