Florida basketball had no problems handling the St. Francis Red Flash, who fell to the Gators inside the O'Connell Center on Wednesday night, 102-61.
It was a clear mismatch from the start, with the Orange and Blue grabbing the wheel from the get-go and going wire-to-wire in its seventh victory of the season so far. But even though the game was well out of reach by the time the final minutes arrived, the world's tallest teenager checked into the game to raise the excitement level back up to a feverish point.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementCenter Olivier Rioux checked in with 1:46 remaining in the second half and just over a minute later, scored his first-ever field goal at the men's college basketball level. The bucket came on a broken play that saw the towering redshirt freshman cutting through the lane for the score.
His score represents Florida's final points tallied on Wednesday night.
The last time Rioux took the court was Dec. 22, when he notched his first collegiate point (via free throw) and rebound against the Merrimack Warriors in Gainesville; his collegiate debut came on Nov. 7 against the UNF Ospreys.
