Nebraska coach Matt Rhule publicly addressed Dylan Raiola’s transfer for the first time Wednesday night, carrying a supportive tone while ready to find the program’s future quarterback.

During an interview on the Huskers Radio Network, Rhule said he wished Raiola well after the former starter entered the transfer portal earlier this week following nearly two seasons in Lincoln.

“If he needs a fresh start, I’m going to pray that he finds the right place and that he has so much success,” Rhule said. “With that being said, there’s a lot of great QBs out there and a lot of guys who want to play at Nebraska.”

Raiola went 13-9 as Nebraska’s starting quarterback before a season-ending injury in a 21-17 loss to USC on Nov. 1 effectively closed his time with the Cornhuskers. The former No. 3-ranked quarterback in the Class of 2024 arrived with significant expectations after being heavily recruited by all the top schools.

Raiola was viewed as a key piece in Nebraska’s rebuild, but Rhule believes that roster construction has evolved in the transfer portal era and it's time to move on.

Nebraska intents to move forward quickly, confident the program remains an attractive destination as it searches for its next quarterback.
