The Kansas City Chiefs won the opening coin toss and deferred to bring out Bo Nix and the Denver Broncos offense to start the game.
Denver’s offense came out with a strong balance in the run and pass to pick up a few first downs and setup a second a short near the Chiefs 40 yard line, but they were stuffed on an inside run there. On third and two, Nix passed it outside to RJ Harvey who had good blocking out front for another first down pickup into field goal range.

They got inside the red zone on a short pass to Lil’Jordan Humphrey that came up just short of the first down marker. On third and inches, Bo Nix would dive forward for yet another first down at the Chiefs 14.
Two plays later, the Broncos faced a third and six where Nix’s pass sailed high to Humphrey to bring out Wil Lutz and the field goal unit to cap an eight-minute opening drive for Denver.
Broncos 3, Chiefs 0.
The Chiefs began their drive with runs, getting a first down on three straight runs. D.J. Jones stuffed the fourth and put them in a poor down and distance where back-to-back incomplete passes would bring the punt unit out.

A poor throw to an open Marvin Mims Jr. fell incomplete, then an RPO call that Nix decided to keep even though RJ Harvey had plenty of green grass in front of him and lost two yards. Then on third and long, scrambled around and threw a ball that got tipped and intercepted.
The Chiefs ended the first quarter driving inside the red zone.
