The G League's OKC Blue comeback attempt fell just short in their 117-110 loss to the Stockton Kings on Sunday. The road defeat dropped their record to 2-10 in the regular season.

Early on, it was more of the usual. The Blue were in a 25-21 deficit after the first quarter. Things only got worse from there. They let go of the rope a bit in the second frame with just 27 points. That put them in a 61-48 hole to the Kings at the halftime break.

It was much of the same story out of the break. The Blue had 28 points in the third quarter, but the defense couldn't contain Stockton. They trailed by as many as 26 points in the final seconds of the frame. They exited in a 98-76 deficit. Felt like things were all but over.

But the Blue had one last run left in them. They opened the fourth quarter on an 18-6 run to make things somewhat interesting. Only down 104-98 with five minutes left, we suddenly had a game on our hands. Four minutes later, OKC had it at 110-106 with 51 seconds left. We were officially in clutch time, which was a wild development considering how the game looked through three quarters.

Alas, the Kings made an outside jumper and swished in a couple of free-throw attempts to finally put this one away. The Blue scored 34 points in the final frame but ran out of time to complete the 26-point comeback.

The Blue shot 48% from the field and went 13-of-33 (39.4%) from 3. They shot 6-of-10 on free throws. They had 25 assists on 43 baskets. Six Blue players scored double-digit points.

Meanwhile, the Kings 44% shot from the field and went 16-of-45 (35.6%) from 3. They shot 14-of-17 on free throws. They had 28 assists on 39 baskets. Seven Kings players scored double-digit points.

Here are some notable individual performances from both sides:

  • Brooks Barnhizer: 30 points on 13-of-18 shooting, 2-of-2 from 3, 14 rebounds, eight assists, one steal

  • Zhaire Smith: 27 points on 10-of-15 shooting, 3-of-5 from 3, 2-of-4 on free throws, eight rebounds, three assists, two steals

  • Buddy Boeheim: 12 points on 4-of-15 shooting, 4-of-11 from 3, six rebounds, six assists, two steals, one block

  • Anthony Pritchard: 11 points on 5-of-14 shooting, 1-of-3 from 3, five rebounds, three assists

  • DaQuan Jeffries: 25 points on 7-of-15 shooting, 3-of-9 from 3, 5-of-6 on free throws, eight rebounds, one assist

  • Daeqwon Plowden: 20 points on 8-of-15 shooting, 2-of-5 from 3, eight rebounds, four assists

  • Gabe Levin: 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting, 14 rebounds, two assists, two blocks
