Created with a $70 million budget, Inglourious Basterds was a financial hit, grossing $120.5 million in North America and $200.9 million in other territories, for a worldwide total of over $321 million. This made it Tarantino's highest-grossing film to that point, until Django Unchained, a 2012 Western, surpassed it. As a critical success, the dark WWII comedy boasts a Certified Fresh 89% on Rotten Tomatoes with the critics' consensus describing it as "violent, unrestrained, and thoroughly entertaining." Additionally, among its accolades are eight Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay.
